This week’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting will, again, not hold today.
Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in a press release signed by his Special Assistant, Segun Adeyemi, explained that the development was “due to inadequate time to prepare the documents for the meeting.”
In the statement issued in Kano yesterday, the minister said the two-day public holidays declared for the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations left little or no time to prepare for the weekly meeting.
This is the second time the FEC will fail to meet since President Muhammadu Buhari returned to the country on August 19, from London after spending 103 days in the United Kingdom for medical examination. He had left the country for his second medical trip this year on May 7.
The FEC did not meet two weeks ago. Regardless, President Buhari had, on the supposed day of the meeting, received the report on the investigation of the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayodele Oke, from Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who headed the probe panel.
According to the Presidency, the FEC meeting was called off to enable renovation works carried out in the president’s office which, it said, had been invaded by rodents while the president was away on medical vacation in London.
The FEC, however, met last week with President Buhari presiding.
