Iflix, a Subscription Video on Demand (SVoD) service for emerging markets was recently launched in Nigeria.

According to Ngozi Madueke-Dozie, a system analyst and Country Director, Iflix, in a recent interview with Daily Sun, gave reasons why Iflix provides access to TV shows, movies on every device with no credit card required and no contractual obligations.

What peculiar services do you offer to Nigerians?

We are especially thrilled to launch IFLIX in Nigeria. IFLIX offers affordability, variety and convenience by giving our users an amazing selection of TV shows and movies from all over the world, to stream or download on any device of their choice.

We are investing in local content in the entertainment industry. We can feel the pulse of our users of which reflects in our content. We are poised to transform the way Nigerians consume long form entertainment

Each subscription allows users to access the service on up to five devices, including phones, laptops, tablets, and television sets, for viewing wherever, whenever. Iflix subscribers can also download TV shows and movies from Iflix’s extensive catalogue for offline viewing.

Is Nigeria the only African country where you have launched the service?
Nigeria is the first country in Africa where we have launched.  Soon after this, we shall go into several other key markets in Africa.

Nigerian market is important to us because of the population. We look at the mobile subscribers and penetration and if you look at the population of people within the age bracket of 30 years, you’d find out that they are about 135 million. Our target audience is the young and upward people and ultimately, Nigeria is important in terms of our growth in Africa.

I think beyond employment, we will essentially offer Nigerian contents. There are big opportunities for content creation and movie producers in Nigeria. I believe our launch in Nigeria is the key to our success and there will be opportunities beyond even just employment.

What is the roadmap in developing your own contents?

Our roadmap for Nigeria is to create our own contents. This is in the burner because at some point, content providers would increase their point and what happens if we can’t afford it anymore?

Because people will keep putting up their prices and then you become so reliant .Our company now has to be tailored to what those outside sources provide for us. This is what we want to be able to accomplish in the Nigerian market.
What is different about Iflix?
Every company changes values and position as it grows. Our entry into the market is that we have the right variety of content.

You talked about transforming the way Nigerians view contents. What do you mean by that?
Yes, how are people watching their movies? We want to be able to offer to our customers whatever they want to watch. Whatever that tickles your fancy, be it education content, sports, science or religion, as long as they have our app, you are ready to view.

To a layman, how does Iflix work?
Iflix is a leading a Subscription Video on Demand (SVoD) service. We call it subscriber video but for a layman, Iflix is an app which enables you to watch videos, basically.

What do you think of the contents trending now in popular TV?

There are movie houses that have exclusivity to some contents. At some point you have to create contents that should be exclusive to you also.

You cannot succeed in this business if you don’t start creating your own content. That is growth projection at Iflix. There are some good shows but our vision is to create greater ones.

We are in partnership that will give us sports contents that we know our viewers will be very impressed with.
