• Gov’s achievements unprecedented –Aide

From Paul Osuyi, Asaba

AHEAD of the 2019 governorship election in Delta State, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has said he is not threatened by the burgeoning main opposition in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Although, the governor has not declared his intention to run for a second term, he, however, said calls by a number of groups urging him to contest the 2019 governorship election based on his performance cannot be ignored.

But, the governor is more concerned about the criticism of his administration by the APC, describing the opposition party as a noisemaker capable of misleading the people.

Speaking yesterday in Asaba through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, Okowa said the APC had chosen to politicise everything under the sun, adding that the opposition party was painting pictures that were completely at variance with the realities on ground.

In a swift reaction, APC Publicity Secretary, Leo Obibi, accused Okowa of misleading the people, insisting that the governor’s SMART agenda was hollow and empty.

He said Delta people were aware of the misapplication of funds, particularly the allocation to the Delta State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).

Obibi told Daily Sun on phone that: “People of Delta are tired and exhausted, and cannot wait one minute beyond May 29, 2019 to instal APC administration.

The quit notice has come on time, Okowa should start preparing his hand over note.”

Meanwhile, Executive Assistant to Okowa on Marine Development, Ambassador Karo Ekewenu, has said the governor’s achievements in the past two years of his administration are unprecedented in the history of the state.

Ekewenu, who spoke to newsmen at a forum, said the governor had proven his love for the people of Delta State by bringing transformation to the land through the SMART agenda of the government.

Ekewenu lauded the economic competence of the governor and his prudent management of the scarce resources at his disposal in view of the current recession in the nation which had affected the economic and financial strength of the various levels of government.
