Nigeria’s US based camp in Orlando, Florida is booming with action and excitement as the ladies prepare for the AfroBasket Women 2017 in Bamako, Mali but the smiles have vanished from the faces of two key players that were in the last championship in Cameroon 2015 where Nigeria finished third place. Reason for this is that Helen Ogunjimi and Patience Okpe have been axed from the squad as Coach Sam Vincent continues to thinker the team ahead of the battle in Mali.
Dependable Nigeria Basketball Federation source in the US camp told Daily Sunsport that the two players were dropped based on their performance as it was clear that they were not pulling their weight in training and as such were released from the squad.
However, while the US based players intensify their training with coach Sam Vincent, former national team captain Mfon Udoka as well as Mactabene Amachere, the Lagos camp of the women’s national team for holidaying foreign based players in Nigeria and players from the domestic scene resumes in full force today.
Head coach of the women’s national team, Peter Favour Ahmedu and his assistant Ochuko Okworogun after a week-long final phase of the Zenith Bank sponsored league will get the girls in shape before the rest of the players from America joins in.
