2 Fulanis killed in FCT fracas

From FRED ITUA, Abuja

There was a bloody clash late Saturday night in the Gwawalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja when some Fulanis and natives (Gwaris) were involved in a fight, which led to the death of two Fulanis. The incident led to the displacement of over 200 Fulanis who are currently seeking refuge at the University of Abuja permanent site along the Airport Road.

The FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed late yesterday evening visited the site of the incident to commiserate with the Fulanis at the university site. Bala said his administration was worried about the incident because the history of the relationship between the Gwaris and the Fulanis had been a cordial one. He urged them to take heart and should not take any action that will be seen as a reprisal attack.

Investigation by Daily Sun revealed that an age-long disagreement over the proprietorship of some farmlands between the Fulanis and the Gwaris led to the fracas. The Minister while speaking at the sight of the incident, revealed that President Goodluck Jonathan who had already been briefed about the incident, enjoined both communities to live in peace and harmony with one another.

As a way of providing immediate relief to those directly affected, the Minister announced that relief materials including food, water, mattresses and blankets have already been sent to them and added that they would continue to be looked after by the FCT Administration and NEMA. Senator Bala Mohammed who visited the incident site with FCT Police Commissioner and Commander of the Guards Brigade, and other top FCT Administration officials, ensured the displaced communities that all measures should be taken to ensure the security and protection of lives and property.

On his part, the Sarkin Fulani, who spoke on behalf of the Fulani Communities now, thanked the FCT Minister and President Goodluck Jonathan for coming to their rescue. He assured them that they would continue to live in harmony with the Gwaris in the FCT, while urging the government to ensure that such incidents do not happen again. Meanwhile, the FCT Minister has called a meeting tomorrow Monday, which he will be chairing at Gwawalada Area Council.

The meeting will held with leaders of both Fulani and Gwari communities, the Gwagwalada Area Council Chairman, traditional rulers of Gwagwalada and all other stakeholders with a view to making sure that peace between the communities was maintained, as well as finding lasting solution to such mishaps.

  3. the govt must be on watch against revenge attack for in many communities where such thing happened the Fulanis always revenged. Security must be beefed up else the story of their revenge won’t be good at all for ears to hear

  4. Those that till the soil are fair in coming up with their crops and those that rear animals take peace with them as they provide meat. Agriculture is a money yielding business. Those that go into it must have necessary factors of production or acquire all such by legal means. Terrorising different parts of the country in a bid to profit from animal husbandry is unfair. We are no longer in dark-ages when people undo people by reckless show of might. These fulani animal-farmers sell their cattles whatever price they deam fit without sharing their profits with anyone. Why won’t they be peaceful in grazing peoples’ land if they cannot legally acquire the lands? The Igbos pay for everything they use in their business. The Yorubas does not acquire their certificates wthout due-process and payment of all levies. Even the crop farmers in the North are peaceful about their farmwork. What is this madness among the nomadic fulanis? The FG is for every citizen of Nigeria and I believe it is high time the nomads are sensitized on the need to be peaceful in their occupation.

  5. The Gwaris don’t allow the Fulanis to turn FCT to Jos, where some bush Fulanis have succeded in taken over most of their lands.

The Fulanis are evils, they should go back to their States if they cannot respect the land owners

  6. Gwaris should not make the mistake of allowing these devils called fulanis in there mist because this will be there worst mistake if at all they listen to any govt official telling them to live in peace with devils…the earlier the better for you gwaris

  8. Fulani is d achilees heel of nigeria. All the killings and beastiality in nigeria is pepertuated by fulani. Atiku, ahmadu bello, dangote, yaradua are all fulani. The reason is that like d masai of kenya,d fulani is a tribe still in d pedestran or pastoral stage of existence. Thus while d masai hav been bundled into a conserved habitat,d fulani of nigeria hav been allowed to roam free leading to d clash of civilise people with uncivilise fulani. Solution is for d fed govt to make laws targeting d fulani to monitor and regulate their activity. If that can not b done then d 11 fulani dominated states should b cut out and given independence out of nigeria. This way fulani causing trouble in nigeria can b punished and deported. The fact that fulani are not located in nigeria alone means they wud b a menace bicos they are not real nigerians but aliens who must b treated as such. This is d issue fueling boko haram killings in nigeria.

  9. So you it is always Fulani against the host community one day the cup go full. But the host community should go and arm themselves and maintain an unwavering night watch. Because in typica Fulani manner reprisals will come and they usually will come at night. Half sword is enough.

  10. Omachoko Joseph on

This villages should watch out for this Fulani people because they will definitely come for reprisal attack.
It is a matter of time because they are dangerous people.
