14 Boko Haram members, one soldier killed in Kano

A total of 14 persons, suspected to be members of the Boko Haram Islamist sect, were killed on yesterday in Kano, in an early morning operation by the Joint Security Task Force in the metropolitan area of the state. Also killed in the shootout that began at about 4.00am and lasted several hours was a soldier, just as another soldier was injured.

The scene of the bitter confrontation, which started initially as a routine search operation in the quarters was a pink building located at Yan ‘Awaki Quarters, behind Ungwar-Ukwu Area in Tarauni Local Government Area of the state capital. Among the weapons recovered in the dawn operation was a blue Golf car, with the registration number: “AW 164 NSR,” which, according to security authorities, was already primed with explosives and set to wreak havoc on the people of the state on Easter Sunday. Other weapons of destruction recovered from the scene were explosives and explosive-making devices of various kinds as well as arms and ammunition of different caliber, including a locally fabricated anti-aircraft launcher. The number of suspects arrested was not specified but a suspect, described as one of the commanders of the sect in the state, was among those taken into custody by the Joint Security Task Force. He was moved away in an armoured carrier vehicle amidst tight security. The densely populated Yan ‘Awaki Quarters was simply frozen while the operation lasted. Traffic for the whole of the morning was barred while residents stayed indoors for fear of being caught in the crossfire just as armed personnel flooded the streets. Already, the heads of the various security outfits in the state had inspected the scene of the operation. Among the officers were the head of the JTF in the state, Brigadier General Ilyasu Abba, the director of the State Security Service (SSS), the Commissioner of Police of the state, Alhaji Musa Daura and the 339 Base Services Group Commander, Air Commodore Sani Ahmed. Speaking to newsmen at the scene, General Abbah disclosed that the operation followed intelligence report to the effect that the sect members had concluded plans to wreak yet another havoc in many places in the state. He explained that the ambush was carried out by the task force, acting on the intelligence reports. General Abbah held that the sect members did not mean well for the state and for the country, adding that among the weapons recovered from them was an antiaircraft weapon. He confirmed that 14 Boko Haram suspects died, 11 in the building area and three in their bid to escape in a truck. He added that a soldier was killed while another was injured and hospitalised but was in stable condition. General Abbah said the fighting broke out when the sect members attacked the troops that came to the area to conduct a peaceful search. He appreciated the efforts that were made to protect civilians and the immediate neighbourhood of the operation and maintained that as a matter of rule, “the residents of the neighbourhood are being protected, unless if they don’t cooperate with security forces.” He was uncomfortable that nobody in the neighbourhood raised the alarm over the car that was primed with explosives, saying, “you can’t imagine that this car (bomb-laden Golf car) had been primed and it was kept here. And they are neighbours to some people and nobody had been able to raise the alarm.” Against this background, he called on the people of the state to cooperate with security forces, while reminding the public that the issue of ensuring the security of lives and property was not to be left for the security forces alone. He added: “I would say that wherever you have more than 10 people in a place, they need to adopt security measures of how to protect themselves before the security forces can come for them.” The head of the JTF in the state maintained that, “the security forces in the state have been doing a lot, covertly, to ensure that Kano and its environs is peaceful but we have not been making noise about it.”

Kudos to JTF and rest in peace the fallen hero.
JTF needs information from the public on the activities of these BH.I can imagine the havoc these idiots must have caused again.
Most of there attacks were carried out with Golf cars.Is it because it is cheap? Any Golf car should be looked out for the second time.
Sources of the raw materials used for the production of these IEDs should also be looked into and possibly controlled especially the Urea fertilizer.

All these people calling for amnesty for boko haram Know these boys from A to Z and they (the boys) are always at their beck and call any time they wish to carry out their heinous activities. The call for amnesty is diversionary because they the advocates of amnesty have invested so much in arms and amunitions that they won’t like surrendering of such arms as a condition for amnesty.

At this point nigerians hardly do not know who is involved in the collaboration that has kept this sect going and remained functionable. If you know how much a bullet round costs, you will understand my drift!. Yesterday, Northern rulers unanimously called for a dialogue between the govt and these faceless killers. A day before, former millitary ruler, Abdusallami ordered that Boko Haram members deserve anmesty. In the midst of the sea of big generals, SS directors, police chiefs and co, it is hard to know who is a double agent amongst them. For me, I say thanks to the soldiers who are out there riskying their lives everyday. For the families of the fallen, I pray God to help them find socour for this senseless killing of your loved one, a nigerian soldier and hero.

Kudos to the JTF. I strongly believe we must win this battle and the devil and his cohorts must be put to perpetual shame. Our God is alive.

  10. Odili April 1, 2013 at 6:48 am

Jtf thanks for the great risk you are taking to protect the public from these evil monsters; who from all indications, are enjoying the active cooperation of their people. It is a pity that instead of nothern elders to call these boys to order, they are bussy politiking with the issue by calling for amnesty for a faceless BH. The so called eldes should first unmask these men among them, before anything else. The federal govt should ensure proper care for the families of any Jtf member who died in this process.

  11. Nzube April 1, 2013 at 6:52 am

Weldone JTF men job weldone the people should start to cooperate start feeding JTF with good and correct information

  12. Gabriel April 1, 2013 at 7:42 am

Hmmmm! Rest in peace the fallen solder; you’re a hero indeed. To the JTF, it’s a job well done. The BH and their sponsors should know that the evil a man does lives with & after him and northern leaders (bh sponsors) shld equally know that what goes around comes around.

  13. Ebeze April 1, 2013 at 7:59 am

Boko Haram do not need amnesty. People need to stop ‘evil work’. If you give Boko Haram amnesty within months more dangerous sect will comes up and expect amnesty before they will stop there evil works. Boko Haram will either stop there evil works or ‘the law’ will…

  14. Okoko April 1, 2013 at 8:05 am

It is becoming clear that awusas are joining this boko haram enmass on daily basis because of sympathy they received from their leaders .

  15. AGU MBAISE April 1, 2013 at 8:12 am

small time those things will surely end Thank God for JTF

  16. Truth Is Bitter April 1, 2013 at 9:08 am

More grease to the elbow of JTF. Pls, government must not dialogue with the faceless Boko Haram unless the Northern elders can come out as their sponsors. The North should continue to destroy their own economies built by oil looter money. Woe to the Northerners they have lost their grip on power.

  17. okon April 1, 2013 at 9:32 am

When the heat is high, sultan,Garba mohammed,Tambuwal and Balarabe Musa will fish out both the sponsors and members of Boko Haram

  18. Adie Unimke April 1, 2013 at 10:12 am

JTF are doing theirs best to wipe out those infidels but The President is doing nothing from his own end. Why not wipe out those sponsors of BH from his government? remember he (the president) told us he is aware of the fact that Boko Haram has infiltrated his government; what is stoping him from flushing them out and prosecuting them in the competent courts of the land?
If you want to kill a tree you don’t just cut the branches but you go to the roots and cut them off; Mr President sir, cut down those known Boko Haram’s roots if you are serious to end this saga.

  19. mii April 1, 2013 at 10:24 am

They lost the Presidency that they thought is their birth right and decided to make Nigeria ungovernable, the introduction of BH is deliberate to drive their threat home. It is unfortunate because this people are live (ATIKU and BUHARI). Are they above the law and untouchable? The innocent ones are dying. What ever that goes up must come down. The JTF bravo. The death of the soldiers are not in vain. They are in deed HEROES. All should remember that a person who can not buy a meal can not buy weapon and ammunition. This is food for thought

  22. olu joseph April 1, 2013 at 10:43 am

Well done JTF, God will continue to help and protect you. That building should be brought down to its foundation immediately. Anybody calling for amnesty for boko haram is surely one of their sponsors.

bala is one of d abokl bokoharam members. igbos love themzeives and wil not be killing themselves and others.
i donot support amnesty for these beasts or more dangerous ones will emerge within weeks from other parts of nija and our government will only be doing amnesty and nothing more.

  29. Uzobekee April 1, 2013 at 3:34 pm

You don’t waste time commenting when urchins like bala bleats like a sheep he is. That’s dissipating energy on an infrahuman element. The problem with BH is that the president is afraid of their sponsors maybe because of political expediency or absolute lack of will power. Else those calling for amnesty for mindless blood-sucking animals should be dealt with as their sponsors. When a BH is arresgted in a governor’s or ex-governor’s lodge and nothing happens to that official what does it suggest. I only feel for the souls of those lost in this BH affair. Govt. knows who their sponsors are, only that its chicken heart will not allow it to act.

  31. Maihula April 1, 2013 at 7:17 pm

May God almighty in his infinite mercy continue to expose whoever is behind the killing of innocent souls in the Boko Haram. As Dr Gumi rightly pointed out if Prophet Muhammad is to be around he will definitely declare war against the Boko Harams. People are being kill left, right and centre. Surely the blood of the innocent will continue to hunt any one that is behind this act and all those involve will perish in hell fire and experiencing a fierce and unpalatable death. deep in my heart I sincerely pray for peace to return to our region and the entire country at large. Please my Christian brothers pray and fast. I have devoted 2 days every week for fasting for God to bring an end to this bad situation in Nigeria. I sincerely wish everyone that is peace loving an enjoyable Easter holiday.

“Wrong prescription to the cure of Boko haram.”Boko haram does neither need nor require amnesty;rather, they require extamination from the surface of Nigerian nation. Those prescribing amnesty as a cure to Boko haram spirit of extremism/fanatism should rather have a re-think as it is rather a consideration of mere Symptoms than the exact cause of the nation’s illment-insecurity. Solong as Almajiris continue to exist in the north, northern boarders continue to remain porous to Mallians,Chadians and Camerronians, this problems of various patterns of insecurities must continue to confront us.Northerners have the answers to the problems because the invite these immegrants and grant them accomodations and use them to the detriment of the Nigerian nation.
