The new Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr. Mustapha Maihaja, has promised to unfold his agenda for NEMA in the next couple of days.

Maihaja said the agenda would give clear direction and guidance for the operations of the emergency management agency towards the realisation of its mandate.

He promised that the document would strengthen and consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor, particularly in the handling of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other sundry issues.

He said: “I am taking over at a time the country is faced with major emergency involving IDPs, meningitis ravaging various states and other challenges requiring urgent response from NEMA and concerted efforts with various agencies.

“The agency is positioned for effective disaster management, especially in the areas of prevention, leveraging on globally accepted frameworks.”

He solicited the cooperation of the staff of the agency and stakeholders to increase the momentum of disaster management in the country as well as set the pace for others.
