The Nigerian aviation industry received an unprecedented commendation and boost when the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Global Aviation Training (GAT) recently acknowledged the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, (NCAT) Zaria “as the training institution with the highest number of trained instructors and highest number of delivered ICAO courses.”.                         This recognition puts the Nigerian aviation on the driving seat of the global efforts at ensuring availability of well trained aviation professionals to effectively establish more efficiency and safety in the industry.  

NCAT received the Award prize at the just concluded GAT and TRAINAIR Plus Symposium in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  By this recognition also, the ICAO Global Aviation Training (GAT) office further gives NCAT more Training allocations to conduct additional courses such as:  Government safety inspector airworthness – Air – Opeator and approved Maintenance Organization Certification Government Safety Inspector Operations – Air Operator Certification Course; Government Safety Inspector Personnel Licensing Course; and Dangerous Goods Part1. While receiving the ICAO GAT Award, the Rector/Chief Executive of NCAT Capt. Abdulsalami Mohammed thanked ICAO for the honour and inspiring recognition of NCAT success.

He demanded that the Federal government avail the Nigerian College of Aviation with needed budgetary allocations. According to the Rector, the allotment of more ICAO Courses to be conducted in NCAT implicitly entails more finances for procurement and acquisition of the needed facilities and expertise respectively.  Meeting these needs he hoped are very fundamental to maintaining and propagating Nigerian interest in ICAO.

Similarly, the Deputy Rector of the College (Mr. D.B. Yahaya) has been elected into the ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS Steering Committee (TPSC) in recognition of total commitment of NCAT’s training activities in line with global standards.  He assures that by this award, NCAT would relentlessly work toward sustaining the tempo and would remain steadfast towards achieving full attainment of an ICAO Regional Training Centre of Excellence.
