The Nigerian Air Force said its medical units are well equipped to carry out medical examination and certify civil and military pilots within the country.

The Air Force said the certification it received from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) empowering it to medically certify air crew of both military and civil aviation in conformity with international standard and pilots so certified are recognized worldwide.

The Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar who was represented by the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Logistics Command Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Yahaya said on Thursday that: “We have been given certification to even examine civil aircrew including pilots cabin crew and everybody. So once they visit our facility, the two doctors had been given the seal and when certified will issue a medical fitness certificate that is recognized internationally.”

He said the air crew of the NAF undergo annual medical review, at the end issued a medical certificate of fitness. While the non-air crew undergo biennial medical review.

Also speaking with Daily Sun the Director Medical Services AVM Saleh Shinkafi said the certification includes the upgrade of equipment and the infrastructure at the hospital.
