The Minister of Communications, Mr. Adebayo Shittu, has approved some promotions and appointments in the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST). They include the elevation of three Senior Assistant Postmasters-General to the rank of Deputy Postmasters-General (DPMG).

The affected officers are Aliyu Bashir Mahmud, now DPMG (Admin.); Irmiya Darmah Kulawe, now DPMG (HRM) and Willie Udo Ekong, DPMG (HRM).

A letter signed by Mrs. G. B. Godiya, on behalf of the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, conveyed the minister’s approval to the Postmaster-General/CEO of NIPOST, Mr. Bisi Adegbuyi.

The letter conveyed “the approval of the minister for the ratification of the promotion of the officers that were successful in the promotion exercise” held recently.

In his congratulatory letter, the PMG said the promotions awerere “with effect from January 1, 2017, following your successful performance at the promotion interview.”

“The minister appreciates your contributions towards the growth of the organisation and hopes that you will even work harder in the years ahead,” he said.

Mahmud joined the NIPOST in 1986 as a personnel officer. He had variously served as EMS/Speed Post Marketing Manager and Area Postal Manager, before he was moved to the Corporate Services Division, Abuja.

In August 2016, he was appointed Executive Assistant to the PMG, until his appointment as Director, Human Resources Management. He is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Management, fellow of the Institute for Public Administration and the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria.

Kulawe has over 30 years’ working experience in administration and operations management in the public and private sectors. He was Social Mobilisation Officer for MAMSER, in charge of Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe State, before he transferred his service to NIPOST in 1992.

He served as Head of Operations in Lagos Mainland, and as Area Postal Manager in Osun, Abia, Lagos Island and Lagos Mainland. He was moved to the headquarters, Abuja, in January 2012 as Senior Asstistant Postmaster-General, Counter Operations Territorial Administaration Division, and Acting Deputy Postmaster-General, in September 2016 until his new appointment.

He has received merit awards from both PMG and private corporate organisations as the best Area Postal Manager.

Kulawe holds the prestigious cheiftaincy title of Turakin Lunguda in the Lunguda Traditional Council of Guyuk Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
