Members of the tripartite committee set up to come up with a new national minimum wage for the country are currently meeting in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, in Abuja.

Representatives of labour unions are in the meeting which has officials of the Federal Government and representatives of the organised private sector also in attendance.

Members of the committee are expected to sign the final report at Monday’s meeting and thereafter forward it to the SGF, Boss Mustapha, for onward transmission to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Labour unions are set to commence indefinite strike by midnight of Monday if the meeting failed to meet labour demands.

While the Federal Government is maintaining its earlier proposal to pay N24, 000 as new minimum wage to workers, the governors under the aegis of Nigeria’s Governors Forum (NGF), have proposed to pay N22,500.

The organised labour has been insisting that a unanimous decision of N30,000 was reached at last meeting by the Minimum Wage Negotiation Tripartite Committee.
