•Nigeria in danger under Buhari –PDP govs

From Fred Itua and Taiwo Amodu, Abuja

President Muhammadu Buhari has informed the National Assembly that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will act on his behalf during his 10-day medical vacation in the United Kingdom.
In a letter addressed to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Buhari said he informed the lawmakers of his vacation in compliance with section 145 (1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
“In compliance with section 145 (1) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, I wish to inform Senate that I will be away on a short medical vacation from June 6-16, 2016, and while I am away, the vice president (Osinbajo) will perform the functions of my office…”
Meanwhile, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and the leadership of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have sought God’s intervention in Buhari’s health challenge.
Ondo State Governor and Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum, Dr. Segun Mimiko, however, warned that the nation is in grave danger under Buhari.
The president’s ill health also got the attention of PDP leadership yesterday, as Ekweremadu led chieftains of the party in a one-minute prayer for quick recovery for Buhari.
The prayer held during the formal handover of the affairs of PDP to Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led  committee.
Ekweremadu said: “I will like to welcome everybody to this short but important ceremony. But, before I proceed, let me quickly remind all of us that our president is presently not feeling well and has been flown abroad for treatment. So, I will like to invite you to rise. Let us say one minute of prayer for his quick recovery.”
Ekweremadu and Mimiko, however, flayed the Buhari administration for the poor state of the economy. The deputy Senate President pleaded with Nigerians to exercise patience till 2019 when he assured the PDP would regain power and put smiles on their  faces.
After initial denials, the Presidency eventually admitted that Buhari was fighting persistent ear infection for which his physicians recommended medical help in the UK.
Confirming the development, Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina said: “The president is going for a 10-day rest and, during that period, he will see specialists who will look at his ear because he has been treating that ear locally for some time.”
