The Katsina State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has showered praises on Governor Aminu Bello Masari over what it described as prompt payment of salaries of civil servants in the state.

Speaking on Monday, at a rally to mark the 2017 May Day celebrations, NLC Chairman in the state, Comrade Tanimu Lawal Saulawa, also used the occasion to score the Bello Masari-led state government high for its achievements in two years in office, noting that government has performed well especially in the health and education sectors.

According to Saulawa, “the congress wishes to appreciate the commitment, bold and courageous policies of His Excellency especially in the prompt payment of salaries to workers and there is no doubt that the administration’s approach to the general welfare of civil servants is immeasurable and indeed commendable.

“We note with appreciation the payment of pension and other retirement benefits to our senior citizens in the state and further wish to intimate you that there are still more retirees who have not been paid in spite of having been screened and verified.

“The delay in payment is inflicting more hardship on these retired officers who put in their best in the development of our dear state.

“Without fear of contradiction, we must also here that the government has done commendably well in both the education and health sectors in the state. We are witnesses to the efforts of government at providing conducive learning environment at all tiers of education in the state and the state of the art rehabilitation and reconstruction of our primary and secondary schools is indeed commendable.”

The Labour leader also reviewed some aspects of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in the past two years and commended Federal Government’s TSA and whistle blowing policies.

As Salauwa put it, “as much as the President is making concerted efforts at recovering stolen money, he is also placing measures to expose looters and block ways through which money was embezzled, laundered and stored in vaults or at graveyards.

“Indeed, cash recovered in various currencies within the last one year as declared by President Buhari is well over half of the national budget for this year.”
