A Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced a 21-year-old man, Monday Yomi, to two weeks imprisonment for stealing a generator set valued N85,000.

Yomi, who resides at NEPA Junction, Apo District of the FCT had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft and begged for lenience.

Magistrate Aishatu Ibrahim, however, gave the convict an option N5,000 fine, and also ordered him to pay a compensation of N40,000 to the nominal complainant.

She said that the convict should either return the generator set or pay the compensation on or before Sept. 30.

The prosecutor, Mr Conatus Abah, had told the court that one Abacha Ali reported the matter at Apo Police Station on Aug. 1.

Abah said that Yomi criminally trespassed into the complainant workshop at NEPA Junction Apo and stole his welding generator set.

The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the convict admitted stealing the generator set.

He confessed that he sold it for N8,000 to one Agada who is now at large.

The offence contravened sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The convict had earlier pleaded with the court to pardon him saying that he was not with his right senses when he stole the generator. (NAN)
