AN unemployed trailer driver, Mr. Jafaru Sorgie, said to be in his 40s is now in police net for allegedly murdering his wife, Roseline in the early hours of yesterday at their residence, 8, Araromi Street in Oshodi- Post Office area of Lagos metropolis.

According to neighbours, nobody knows exactly what prompted Jafaru to murder his wife. “We didn’t hear them quarrel”, one the neighbours said. “We heard shouts from their room, we went in only to see that Jafaru has killed his wife. So, we quickly alerted Akinpelu police station.”

Narrating to Saturday Sun, one of the children, who was at the scene said he noticed that his father was very restless that night, but still didn’t know when, or why his father killed his mother, Roseline.

“I was watching TV around midnight. I noticed that my father wasn’t sleeping; he was restless and was walking around the house. I later went to bed only to be woken up by the shout of my mother as she has been murdered. She was bleeding from the neck and nobody seems to know what happened.”

According to neighbours, nobody not even the police could find the object that was used to stab Mrs. Sorgie. “We took pains to search the compound looking for the weapon used but couldn’t find it,” a neighbour told Saturday Sun.

It was also gathered that the alleged killer Jafaru and the deceased Roseline, have been married for over 20 years, and have produced five children. However, the union has been fraught with constant marital strife, abuse, accusations of infidelity and unending brutal assaults on the woman.

A close relation of the deceased, Mrs. Kate Yakubu told our reporter that on many occasions, Roseline got fed up with the marriage over the abuse and moved to end the marriage, but she is always dissuaded by her in-laws who would continuously plead not to divorce her husband, their brother.

“There was a particular time they fought and he bit off her ear. Another time he almost strangled her to death with his bare hands, but she remained in the marriage because of her children. Rose was the breadwinner of the family. She worked so hard trying to feed her children. She sold fish and other edibles to ensure that food was on the table, regrettably, Jafaru has not been a good husband. He always accused her blindly of infidelity that we know she’s innocent of. I’m so heartbroken,” she wailed loud.

Another neighbour, Simon described Jafar as a hostile man and hardly relates with anybody. “Every time we wonder how his hardworking wife copes living with him. He’s a very stern man that hates people relating with any member of his family”.

Confirming the incident, the Deputy Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Damascus Ozoani said they got alert about the incident around 5:49am on Friday. And that the body of the deceased has been deposited in an disclosed mortuary.
