The lawmaker representing Ikwerre constituency in the Rivers Assembly, Mr. Azubike Nwanjoku, has condemned recent resurgence of violence and disruption of peace in some Ikwerre communities.
Nwanjoku, an APC lawmaker, made the condemnation in an interview with newsmen, in Port Harcourt, on Wednesday.
He said that some of the cases of violent attacks and disruption of public peace were being masterminded by non-indigenes residing in Ikwerre communities.
There were recent cases of killings in Ikwerre communities such as Mgbuosimi in Obio/Akpor and Ibaa in Emohua council areas.
The lawmaker called on traditional rulers in Ikwerre communities to evolve means of unmasking those perpetrating violence in their areas.
According to him, positive developments will not be possible if concerted efforts are not made to tackle the spate of violence in the area.
“Ikwerre communities play host to most of the non-indigenes resident in the state; we need to enjoy peace; we all need to join in the fight against violence.
“It is the responsibility of both the government and the traditional institution, we cannot continue to fold our arms and watch violence continue unabated,’’ he said. (NAN)
