The Kwara State House of Assembly is to investigate the  under- utilisation of the state’s Mandate International Market, in Ilorin.

To this end, it has constituted a five member ad hoc committee to investigation manner of allocation of the shops in the market and chart way forward in restoring sanity and international status  of the market.

The ad hoc committee, according to the Deputy Speaker, Elder Mathew Okedare, who presided over the Thursday’s sitting,  said the committee has the House Leader Hon. Hassan Oyeleke, as chairman.

The House resolved to investigate the under utilisation of the international market following a motion raised by a member representing Essa/Shawo/ Igbodun Constituency Hon. Hassan Oyeleke.

The Deputy Speaker, while reading the resolutions of the House, said the committee which had two weeks within which to carry out the assignment, should invite all stakeholders with a view to  achieving the purpose for which the market was constructed during the tenure of Dr. Bukola  Saraki.

Hon. Oyeleke had while raising the motion, said  most shops in the market constructed by both the State and 16 Local Government Councils were under lock and key and urged the house to wade in with a view to making it fully functional.

He described the International Market as a veritable means of increasing the Internally Generated Revenue of the State, if put into proper use.

Other members who spoke on the motion identified policy summersault, as the  cause of the under utilisation of the international market and urged the legislature to salvage it from its current degeneration.

The House equally, at its sitting, received a petition titled “SOS on overloading of Transformer  at the Irewolede Legislative Quarters” jointly signed by Seidu Liman and Aliyu Monde and was referred to the House Committee on Energy, Works and Transport for investigation.
