Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers, yesterday morning, killed two policemen in Aba, Abia State. The hoodlums also abducted two businessmen  in the city.
It was gathered that the gunmen had struck on Tenant road, within the Rice and Drugs section around 10am and kidnapped a businessman,  a popular rice dealer.
It was gathered that the gunmen, who wore army camouflages had trailed the victim in a tricycle popularly called Keke Napep from his house before they kidnapped him close to his shop, and took him to their hideout.
Earlier in the morning at about 7.45am, a car dealer was also kidnapped as he was taking his children to school.
Daily Sun learnt that after receiving a distress call which followed the kidnap of the car dealer, the Aba Area Commander, ACP Peter Wagbara, put his men on alert at the possible escape routes of the hoodlums.
The hoodlums in an attempt to escape,  ran into a police patrol van coming in the opposite direction and opened fire, killing a police man and injuring another, who later died in an undisclosed hospital where he was rushed to for treatment.
The gunmen on getting to Ovom and Ukaegbu road, in the outskirt of the commercial city abandoned both the car dealer and his Lexus 300 Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) and fled.
According to  unconfirmed, report, one of the gangs that struck in the city  attempted to rob two commercial banks on  Ngwa Road, Aba, but for the vigilance of security men posted to the banks.
A local vigilance member was  shot and  injured by the bandits for allegedly alerting the security men at the banks.
There was heavy presence of police personnel around Ngwa road down to the popular Orji Uzor Kalu Bridge, some kilometers away from where the incident happened.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ezekiel Udeviotu, confirmed the death of the two police men, rescue of the car dealer and recovery of his vehicle.
He said the police have launched manhunt on the gang and urged members of the public to provide police with information that could lead to the arrest of the hoodlums.
