Former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu is demanding that President Muhammadu Buhari rewards players and coaches of Enyimba FC team that won the CAF Champions League in 2003 and 2004 with national honours.

Kalu who spoke with aviation reporters at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos shortly after arriving Nigeria from the United States of America (USA) lauded President Buhari’s move in addressing the injustices associated with the annulment of June 12, 1993 Presidential Election, by posthumously acknowledging the election as free and fair and Chief MKO Abiola as the legitimate winner of that election.

Kalu said in that same spirit of reconciliation and appreciation of sacrifices made by Nigerians in the past by President Buhari, the history making Enyimba team should be invited by President Buhari to Aso Rock and rewarded for the feat they performed which he noted was not acknowledged by the then President, Olusegun Obasanjo. “As far I am concerned, President Buhari has done it now and anybody talking about equity of June 12 is not saying the truth. June 12 is a reality but the president has to go further than that,” said Kalu.

“And since we are addressing the issues that former President Obasanjo did wrongly, what of the Enyimba that won the African Cup of Champions back to back and no national award was given to them by Obasanjo? No national awards or money, they just got a handshake.
