Former Abia State Governor and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Orji Kalu, has commended the party for the successful conduct governorship primary in Anambra State.
He expressed optimism that the APC will wrest power from the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA)-led state government, adding that the APC governorship candidate, Tony Nwoye has the capacity to take Anambra State to enviable heights.
According to Kalu, who is also the Vice Chairman of the APC seven-man committee for the forthcoming election in Anambra State, all the contestants deserve accolades for the level of maturity and discipline displayed before,during and after the primary election.
In statement signed by his Special Adviser, Kunle Oyewumi, he said: “the primary election was open, transparent and credible and as such all the contestants are satisfied with the outcome of the primary.
“We salute the spirit of sportsmanship exhibited by the contestants and their actions are worthy of emulation. They are true party men and so we expect everyone to be.
“The result of the primary is a testament to the fact that the APC remains the only political party that strictly adheres to the tenets of democracy.
“It is time for other political parties to emulate the internal democracy mechanism of the APC for the sake of Nigeria’s nascent democracy.
“The APC strongly believes in playing politics by the rules and we shall not deviate from the ideals of democracy” “Judging from the pedigree of the party’s flag bearer, the APC will come out victorious at the November 18, 2017 governorship poll in Anambra State”
Kalu, while calling on the electorate to cast their votes for the APC, urged them to safeguard their votes against rigging, adding that with the APC at the federal level, Ndi Anambra will benefit more if the state is equally governed by the APC.
The former governor also urged the contenders to wholeheartedly and collectively work with the party’s gubernatorial candidate, adding there is no victor, no vanquished in the primary and as such all hands must be on deck to ensure landslide victory for the party in the forthcoming election.
Also, a former governor of old Anambra State, Jim Nwobodo, expressed satisfaction at the conduct of the primary.
In a statement, he congratulated Tony Nwoye as on his emergence as the party’s governorship candidate and reminded all the other aspirants of their commitment to support whoever emerges as the party flagbearer.
He also appealed to Nwoye to form a formidable campaign team that would secure victory for the party.
“I  congratulate the Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, and his committee for conducting a  rancour-free primary in the state, making it the first time any political party would conduct such a transparent primary in the state. I also wish to congratulate the National Chairman and National Working Committee for making this possible” Nwobodo said.
