Former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has congratulated the University of Maiduguri on the occasion of its 40th anniversary.

In a statement yesterday, the former governor, who is an alumnus of the university, said it is a thing of joy for a university, which started as a modest institution, to grow to become an education colossus 40 years after its establishment.

He stated that the University of Maiduguri has not only made a mark in qualitative education but, also, contributed greatly in the manpower development of Nigeria.

Kalu said through its excellence, the university has produced many prominent Nigerians who have held top positions in government and corporate organisations.

He stated that with the calibre of the university’s workforce and support of government and alumni, the University of Maiduguri would, in no time, rank among the best universities in Africa and the world.

He enjoined the students and lecturers to main the standards which founding fathers of the university had set and insisted that when this is done, the university will remain “The centre of excellence,” which is its motto.

Kalu commended pioneer vice chancellor of the university, Prof Jubril Aminu, all past vice chancellors, alumni, members of the governing council, the current vice chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, the management and students.
