Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi, yesterday, described Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogonnoya Onu and those indicted in allegations of bribe-for -justice as ‘political jobbers.’
Last Thursday, Justice Sylvester Nwali Ngwuta, of the Supreme Court, named Onu among others, in a bribery allegation.
Umahi, who spoke at the Abakaliki Township Stadium, during a reception organised by the Assemblies of God Church, South East Zone 4 to honour his deputy, Dr. Kelechi Igwe, the first governor of the state, Senator Sam Egwu and the Senator representing Ebonyi South, Sonny Ogbuoji, expressed displeasure at what he described as Onu’s desperation to alter a divine arrangement in the state and Nigeria by trying to influence the Judiciary.
“We heard about the effort of detractors to take that which God gave to us; by buying people to give judgment against us. We heard it before and we are hearing it again but, God is God.
“This is David on the throne and God said he will contend with those who contend with me and those who want to take that which belongs to me, they will not be there to see my end.
“I pity them because the gift and calling of God are without repentance. I pity them, again, because they are people who are so miserable; they are people who have no interest of this state at heart; they are political jobbers.
“Those who have no second address, they are people who profess God with their mouths but their hearts are occultic.
“We will continue to remember them in our prayers. That which God has given to us, no man can take it away from us.”
Governor Umahi further added, “they are at it again, trying all sorts of things and these are people who cannot name 10 constituencies in this state.
“These are people who cannot name 12 traditional rulers in this state; these are people who are so myopic, these are people that cannot boast of anybody in this state that they have helped.
“These are people who cannot pay school fees for any person in this state.
“I pity them; leadership is all about service to the people and not service to themselves.
“Their bellies are their god; I pity them. We came in the name of the Lord, so, I tell Ebonyi people; fear not, we are in the good book of our Lord Jesus.”
Umahi commended the church for celebrating politicians working hard to uplift the people and urged other churches to emulate such gesture.
Responding on behalf of the awardees, Egwu thanked the Church and assured of continued assistance to the church and the less-privileged.
Efforts to get Dr. Onu or his media aide, Sunny Onyeukwu, proved abortive, as repeated calls to their mobile phones were not answered.
