JUST IN: FG paid N450b fuel subsidy – Sen. Marafa

Fred Itua, Abuja

Chairman, Senate committee on Petroleum (Downstream), Sen. Kabiru Marafa,  on Wednesday, told his colleagues that the Federal Government has, so far, paid N450 billion as subsidy on Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as fuel.

Marafa said the amount paid by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) was not approved by the National Assembly as required by law.

He said President Muhammadu Buhari, who doubles as the substantive Minister of Petroleum Resources, gave the approval that subsidy be paid on fuel.

Nigeria is in big trouble, how can a government that removed fuel subsidy now turn round to pay the same subsidy at the tone of #450 billion, this time around without approval from the national assembly.
This is high handedness in the highest order. It is so bad that a government that claims to be fighting corruption cannot even maintain a transparent administration. It is a pity, there is no accountability in this administration because, this is why we have the three arms of government for checks and balances, but here we are, where Buhari has made himself both the legislature and the judiciary. This is why Buhari ran the government for the first six months without Ministers during which so many illegalities and misappropriations took place because he did not want to consult anybody, so bad in a democracy.
