June 12: Opportunity to rectify wrongs –Obi

Former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has said June 12 is an opportunity to correct wrongs, just as he commended President Muhammadu Buhari for declaring same as Democracy Day.

Obi said the primary lesson inherent in that move is that no time is long or overdue to rectify wrongs and mistakes of yesterday.

He said these to newsmen, at the  Local Wing of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, yesterday.

Obi advised the president to go a step further and rectify what he called “other wrongs that are by-products of June 12 and  punctuated our democratic journey.”

The former governor specifically mentioned Prof. Humphery Nwosu, General Musa Yar’Adua, who died in prison, General Alani Akinrinade, Dan Suleiman whose property were burnt to the ground, as well as Chief Ralph Obioha, whose companies; African Trust Bank, Safari brewery, Vegetable Oil company, Cement company went under, after heavy attack.

Also, Also, former editor of the defunct National Concord, Mr. Nsikak Essien, has expressed dismay at the continuous neglect of former staff of the newspaper which was seen as the main organ information of June 12.
Essien was editor of National Concord, owned by the late politician, Bashorun Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.

He told Daily Sun that said it was appalling that no Concord Press staff was invited to today’s event.

“The most unfortunate aspect of it is that government is honouring Abiola and yet, not even one person from Concord has been invited, yet, we suffered more than anybody.  The children have not lost much because the man gave his wealth to them. But, all of us in Concord just walked away, just like that; without anything, not even one naira!”
