Chairman People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Nasarawa State, Hon. Francis Orogu, has explained that Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura escaped impeachment in 2013 due to the intervention of then President Goodluck Jonathan.

Hon. Orogu who told journalists, on Wednesday, in Lafia, while reacting to a statement credited to Governor Al-Makura during his senatorial ambition declaration where he said PDP in the state is in comatose and will vanish before 2019 elections.

Orogu who was a member of the last assembly said that, if not for compromise  of the then president, the last assembly had done all that was expected of them to impeach the governor whom he said was a bad product for the state.

He explained that instead of the governor to focus on addressing the insecurity challenges and unemployment in the state, he is wasting his time on an ambition that he will not be able to achieve.

According to him, “He (Al-Makura) was lucky to have escaped impeachment due to the attitude of our leaders. The president at the time saved him, but this time, we will show him the way out through the ballot. Those who did not believe in what we saw then have seen it clearly today,” he said.

He vowed that the ambition of outgoing governor to move to the senate in 2019 is a fruitless effort as the PDP will defeat him.

Meanwhile, the newly-sworn in chairman  of Lafia Local Government Area, Hon. Aminu Mohammed Maifatah, has disclose that he met an empty revenue treasury on assumption of office which makes it difficult for him to run the affairs of the council.

He stated this while receiving members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Nasarawa State Chapter led by its chairman Doo Shaman.

The chairman explained that he has since disengaged the revenue consultants and have made efforts to reposition the mechanism to shore up the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR ) of the council.

He said that the local government staffs will continue to receive salaries in percentages until the federation allocation improves.

Earlier, the state chairman of the union, Comrade Dogo Shaman said they were in chairman’s office to congratulates and identify with him over his recent victory at the polls.
