Actress and talk show host, Mabel Oboh whose brother, John Oboh aka Mighty Mouse created what is now known as “Ajegunle beat” has expressed profound gratitude to the organisers of the Ajegunle to the World Concert for recognising her role in grooming music stars in the jungle city.

“I never knew it would come to this. When I gave that financial support to my brother, it was a forgotten story. Believing in my brother and his dream, I felt that something was going to come out of it. But now that they have recognised my contribution, I am really honoured.

“The support I gave to my brother then led to the grooming of great musicians in Nigeria. I am glad that I am alive to receive this recognition award,” Oboh, who recently announced her decision to stage a comeback to acting, said.

On how the Jahoha Studios was established, Oboh disclosed that in 1991, her brother. Mighty Mouse approached her for financial assistance, saying he had a dream about Ajegunle music.

“He told me that he needed to set up a studio and with that studio he would be able to produce all AJ musicians. And truly, when the studio opened, the artistes were trooping in to actualise their dreams. I decided to sponsor him. It was his dream that I stood for. I imported all the equipment he had in his studio from Ireland,”
she explained.

Mabel, who studied Criminology at Bucksnew University, Buckinghamshire, hit the limelight in the ‘80s, producing popular sitcom, Victims, which ran for years on NTA.
