Queengold Daniella Sekibo, initiator of the Africa Fashion and Design Week (AFDW), which began on October 13 at the Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos, is also the Managing Director of Blue Pearl Services International. The event, which ends today is in its sixth year. It featured collections from over 30 leading established and emerging African designers from 11 countries. Sekibo spoke with Sunday Sun on her favourites.
Favourite colour?
It’s sky blue. I love blue and its funny that we are the first to go away from the red carpet tradition. We only do blue carpet. Funny enough, I’m a blue freak.
Favourite food?
I love garnished food. The food has to be very busy for me with a lot of picking and picking. I’m not a good eater but I chew a lot. I love lots of garnished food. If it’s fried rice, it must have plenty things to pick from.
Favourite holiday spot?
I won’t know which one now. I think I will pick Barcelona as my favourite, maybe because of Carta Catalonia, which is a shopping area. You have a lot of shopping areas to go, you have lots of museums around. It has a very nice view.
Favourite accessory?
I really do love accessories. With that background of engineering and fashion, I love a pair of jeans and a top with accessory that is flowing down. I love accessories.
Favourite leader?
It will be my mentor, David Ibiyiomie. He has inspired my life so much. He actually inspired me to do what I do, even with my brand. Another person that would have easily struck me is Barak Obama. He is a very good orator. I like the fact that he has passion for his people; I like the fact that he’s the very Black president that we had and how he was able to unite both Black and White to come together. One person I regretted not meeting is Nelson Mandela – he would have been a great real model for me. I actually planned to go and meet him but unfortunately he died before we got there. He sacrificed; he made sure that his country had peace. He wasn’t selfish about his tenure. He lived by example.
Favourite weather?
I think I love it when you are getting into winter. I really love it. When people say they are traveling for summer, I don’t like it. Here is already hot why am I traveling there when its hot. I like it when it’s cold, like it’s snowing, I just enjoy it because I’m used to hot environment.
Favourite music?
I like blues. I mean soft music. It makes me function well.
