Indian herbal medicines dealer and chief executive of AKO Group of Companies Limited, Mr Obiora Atuchukwu, has suggested ways the three tiers of government could ensure that Nigerians go back to the use of herbal medicines in order to reduce the outbreak of various killer diseases.
He said that the government should as a matter of urgency look into the issue by producing some of the herbs that have the ability to fight diseases in the country so as to ensure a healthier environment.
According to him the main reason Africans are having health issues is because they ignored some of the life-saving roots, herbs and plants that God gave them. “You can see that many old people in the society today did not ignore the efficacy of herbal medicines and natural food intake,” he said.
Atuchukwu regretted that many Africans, especially Nigerians, do not live long due prolonged consumption of processed foods. “It is unfortunate that we have deviated from where we were coming from. Asians are known for long life span due to their love for herbal medicines. Many of the effective herbal medicines in the world today are produced in either India or China. Interestingly, those behind it are professors, medical doctors and pharmacists. They are so committed that they have farms for their herbal medicines and do the planting themselves. That is why they are productive and are making waves all over the world.” Atuchukwu therefore advised that such things should be encouraged in Nigeria where herbs, root and plants are many. “Also, we have the land, manpower and resources to do exploits, but the issue is government’s backing because it is expected that anyone who is interested should be encouraged by the government with loan facilities and the enabling environment to operate. More people should also be trained to carry out the task successfully.”
The sole marketer of Dykure for Diabetes, Pykure for piles and other Indian herbal medicines and supplements, also explained that to ensure quality and standard in the production of herbal medicines in Nigeria, authorities in the health sector should supervise the whole process properly. “It is obvious that if we look into the importance of herbs and roots, majority of the health problems our people always have will reduce drastically and the medical tourism that is common today will be a thing of the past because, it will be more of prevention and less of cure.” Atuchukwu further pointed out that the use of herbal medicines should not dissuade people from taking orthodox medicines or visit hospitals when necessary. “It is important that people should go to hospitals for check-ups, so as to know their health status. And, if there is an issue, there is no need to waste time in fighting it with the necessary medicines, For instance, if someone is suffering from diabetes, the best remedy is Dykure herbal capsules, while Pykure is for all stages of piles.”
