Nigerians may not be familiar with his name. But Bada Ibukun Mayowa also known as Nessy Bee has created a place for himself in the music industry.

Within a short period, the Bharder Boiz Music Group (BBMG) recording act has succeeded in establishing himself on the music scene after collaborating with some top Nigerian artistes.

The rap artiste, who started his musical career at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State in 2009, has revealed that one of the challenges a young artiste may encounter is fraudulent show promoters who love to take advantage of up and coming talents.

“There are several challenges you may encounter as a young artiste in Nigeria and the major one is failure of show promoters to give you what is due to you, and if you are not sensitive enough, scammers are ready to take advantage of you, but you just have to be a smart Naija boy,” he said.

Giving an overview on how he started his musical career, he recalled it began like a joke until commendations started pouring in for him from his followers, which he decided to build on. He said he was left with no better option than to put in more effort.

“I started music in 2009, after gaining admission to study Computer Science in OOU. I am a fan of rap music, and I can say I started embracing music right from childhood. I love listening to music and I think it was not a bad idea to create something from what I love listening to,” the act recalled.

According to Nessy Bee, he does virtually all types of music but he’s far better as a rapper. “I am a born rapper. I have five musical videos already, including Fantasy. And since I can’t put out all genres at once, people only get to listen to what I had in the market. People should be expecting more rap music soon, including dancehall,” he said.

On what influenced his style of music, the artiste revealed that he came from the ghetto and that has influenced his style of music, adding that his winning strategy was his ability to understand things very fast.

Speaking on his collaboration with Orezi, Nessy Bee said the collaboration was a cool deal. “Orezi is a friend to my producer, so that wasn’t a problem; the most important thing is ‘do people like the sound, does it sound mature’?”

The act further explained that he went into music not because he didn’t have other things doing after graduation, but he had started music even before he got admission into the university.

“I started doing music because of the passion I developed for it from childhood. I felt music was the only thing I could do after school that will really give me joy and sense of fulfillment,” he explained.

In 2016, the BBMG artiste stepped up his game with Ori Owo. He recently won the heart of Double Wahala singer, Oritsefemi, and they both collaborated on the project, Fantasy.

According to Nessy Bee, more collaboration with other artistes in and outside the country should be expected soon. “I’m looking forward to working with other artistes and releasing my single soon. My sound is unique and also African. African sound is taking over and Fela remains the only figure and source to be reckoned with. Apart from rap music, I do all types of music.”

On his parents’ reaction after telling them he was going into music, the act said: “My parents never supported me going into music. I don’t think any parent wants to support a child who chooses to do music; you are likely to look like a bad kid. I don’t really wait for family support because my parents are particular about my education, and they still want me to get a Master’s degree. But I think I will only get my Master’s degree in music.”
