Tragedy struck in Umuchi village, Ekwulobia, in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State as a security guard working at the depot of a bottling company allegedly butchered his girlfriend, burnt her body and thereafter buried her in a shallow grave.

A resident in the area told Daily Sun: “His (the suspect) girlfriend visited him from Ihiala. They had a misunderstanding and he killed her and dumped her. He cut her into pieces, burnt her remains, before burying her in a shallow grave.”

Confirming the murder, the PPRO, Anambra State Police Command, Mrs. Nkeiruka Nwode, said the suspect confessed his alleged crime to the manager of the depot where he worked.

Said she: “The complainant stated further that, surprisingly, the vigilante man informed him that he killed someone and buried her on that spot within the depot of the breweries on Thursday night.

“Our Divisional Police Officer in the area, in company of detectives, visited the scene where the deceased was buried in a shallow grave. We discovered that he burnt the corpse before burying her. The suspect has been arrested.”

Nwode, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said the police were investigating the matter and the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department of the command in Awka.
