After the animal sacrifice and magical acts the Sunday Tribune of April 18, 1999 reported that a witch – doctor carried out for Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to win the presidential election of that year, I now proceed to the other sinful acts he has to seek God’s forgiveness for. And I am starting with the allegation of one of his sons that he slept with and had carnal relationship with his wife. He did not react to it, but if it is true, then the now 80 year – old former president of Nigeria went against the Lord’s order in verse 15 in the forbidden sexual practices in Leviticus 18 verses 1 – 30. Which states that a man must not have sexual intercourse with his daughter – in – law. The penalty for disobedience being that the lustful and shameless twain must be put to death for committing the grave sin of incest (Leviticus 20:12).

Another offence Chief Obasanjo has to apologize to the Ancient of Days for was the crude impeachment of three governors of the 1999 – 2007 period – Joshua Dariye of Plateau State, Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State and Diepreye Alamieyeseigha of Bayelsa State. Who accused him of organizing their removal because they refused to be controlled or dictated to by him. The actions against them were sinful and unchristian because they were stage – managed vengeful persecution clandestinely carried out at odd hours of the day, by a handful of intimidated or bribed state legislators, who were less than the two – thirds majority legally required for such an exercise.

If Chief Obasanjo also had prior knowledge of the kidnap of Dr. Chris Ngige, the then Governor of Anambra State, by a brother of one of his closest aides in the presidential villa in Abuja, then he and the person or persons behind or involved in the plot, committed a sin and need to seek divine forgiveness. Because their action went against the Lord’s law in Exodus 21:16 which says that nobody should kidnap another person and that anyone who does so must be put to death.

Also sinful are the acts of ingratitude some people complained of against him. That when they gave him money to run for the presidential election in 1999, when he was financially very handicapped, that he became hostile to them after he was elected, even though they did not ask him for the refund their money. Ditto some of those who had helped or rendered other services to him before 1999 and since he left office in 2007. If the allegations are true, Obasanjo needs to ask for the Lord’s forgiveness because it goes against the statement of Jesus Christ in Luke 6:31 that one should not do to others, what one cannot tolerate from other people.

Finally, Obasanjo needs repentance for the Heavenly Father’s forgiveness over his ill – fated third term agenda bid as members of the National Assembly alleged that he offered each of them fifty million naira to facilitate the amendment of the nation’s constitution from a limit of two to three tenures. Giving or receiving bribe is a sin which God warned people against in Exodus 23:8, Deuteronomy 10:17 and Chapter 16 verses 18 – 20 as well as Psalm 15 verse 5.

Dr. Goodluck Jonathan also needs to ask God for forgiveness over the same sin. Because he was reported to have given out money to the chieftains of the opposition parties, traditional rulers, religious leaders and militant warlords to mobilize their people and supporters to vote for him during the presidential polls of 2011 and 2015. In the civilized world and during the First and Second Republics in Nigeria, politicians rely/relied on campaigning to win people to vote for them by presenting what they will or would do if elected. Money is not expected to be given out to be voted for in an election. So, any politician who does so is engaging in bribery against God’s directives.

The second reason why Jonathan must ask for the Lord’s mercy are the reports that investigations by the President Muhamadu Buhari’s government, have shown that the money meant for buying arms and ammunition for the military to fight Boko Haram insurgency, were diverted by his administration to prosecute his re-election in 2011 and 2015. An action that led to the deaths of hundreds of soldiers and civilians, especially in the North – East and which rendered several thousands of people in the zone homeless and in penury.

Professor Anele’s faux pas on Bible authors (10)

The Part 9 published two weeks ago ended with the information that the unknown author of the Book of Hebrews may have been one of Apollos, Barnabas, Silas, Philip, Aquilla or his wife, Priscilla. I now proceed to show where their names are mentioned and their stories told in the New Testament in order for Professor Douglas Anele of the Philosophy Department, University of Lagos to know that like the other authors already showcased, that they too lived in the time of Jesus and were aides to Apostles Peter and Paul. And that they did not come up several decades or more than a century after the death of Christ as he claimed.

There are two Philips in the New Testament. One of them was a disciple of Jesus Christ and whose name is in the list of the 12 Apostles in Matthew 10: 1 – 4 and Acts 1:13. He was also the Philip mentioned in John 6:1 – 15 as the person Jesus asked where they could get enough food to feed the five thousand people he was preaching to. And the Philip who in Acts 8:4 – 40 preached in Samaria and had an encounter with the Ethiopian eunuch. The other Philip was one of the seven helpers of the 12 Apostles mentioned in Acts 6:5. His colleagues were Stephen, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Permenas and Nicolaus.

The reports on the missionary activities of Barnabas as an associate of Apostles Peter and Paul are in Acts 11:19 – 26 and in Chapters 13, 14 and 15. The story of Apostle Paul’s working relationship with Silas and Jewish – born Aquila and Priscilla in Corinth is in Acts 18: 1 – 20. While that of Apollos, a Jew born in Alexandria, Egypt appears in Acts 18: 24 – 28, 1 Corinthians 3:4 – 22 and in Chapter 16:12.

According to Dr. C. C. Nwagwu, a medical practitioner and literary genius, in a text message he sent on the issue: “The toga of the authorship of Hebrews may fit Apollos who was a prodigious man of letter and orator, with enormous and deep knowledge of the Scriptures.”
