Gunmen have killed at  least two persons and injured scores, when they invaded  Mgbuoshimini Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, on Thursday night.

Saturday Sun gathered that the development has caused tension in the community. Some residents of Mgbuoshimini claimed that the assailants were cultists, who invaded the community in search of rival cult members.

According to some community sources,  several  persons sustained machete cuts by the alleged cultists during the operation that lasted for about an hour.

One of the sources, confirmed that the suspected cultists raided one of the streets in the area in search of their targets, adding that some passers-by, who scampered for safety, were injured. The source further  alleged that the community had been living in fear, following the activities of cultists,  after the assassination of one of the chiefs in the community.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),  Nnamdi Omoni, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), has confirmed the incident to jourmalists.

Omoni noted that one of the suspects has been arrested, saying that the gunmen, who carried out the operation, have been declared wanted by the police. He added that the arrested suspect was helping the police in their investigation, noting that several stolen items were recovered from the suspect.
