Unknown  gunmen have reportedly kidnapped the treasurer of the Delta State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Mr. Titus Okotie.

The kidnap occurred on Friday between Kwale and Ozoro axis of the Ughelli-Asaba expressway.

Okotie is said to be contesting the chairmanship position of the union’s election slated for next July.

Daily Sun gathered that Okotie was returning from Asaba to Ughellu along with his daughter in his private vehicle when the hoodlums, numbering five, struck and whisked him away.

They, however, abandoned his fear-stricken daughter and the steaming vehicle at the scene of the incident.

Although details of the kidnap operation were still sketchy as at press time, our correspondent gathered that the hoodlums intercepted Okotie’s vehicle along the busy highway forcing him to make a screeching stop.

They were said to have dragged him out of the driver’s side of the vehicle at gun point while the daughter was ordered to lie face down. They thereafter hauled the victim into their get-away vehicle and zoomed off to the unknown destination.

As at the time of filing this report, the suspected kidnappers were yet to establish contact with the victim’s relatives to make their demands known.

Spokesman of the Delta State Police Command, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, confirmed the incident, saying that the command was already on top the matter.
