Former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Alhaji Usaini Zanwa Akwanga, has been abducted by gunmen from his farm in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa state.
Family sources told our correspondent yesterday that the gunmen, numbering 10, stormed his farm along Wamba Road in Akwanga around 6pm on Tuesday and abducted him to an unknown destination.
The source added that the family was worried about his safety and health, considering his age, since the gunmen were yet to contact his family.
Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Sadiq Bello, who visited Akwanga’s family house yesterday, assured the family that the police had mobilised its officers and men to track down the gunmen and rescue the former minister.
The police spokesman in the state, DSP Kennedy Idrisu, who confirmed the abduction, also said that the police had launched a manhunt for the gunmen and would ensure that the victim was safely rescued.
