Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Thursday night abducted a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state, Barr. Kingsley Ononuju at his residence on Oguta street at the popular Aladinmma Estate in the Owerri Metropolis.

Sunday Sun reliably gathered that Ononuju, who is the secretary of the Imo Equity Movement that has been at the forefront of the campaign for Owerri zone to produce the next governor of the state in 2019, was reportedly abducted by gunmen after attending a town hall meeting organized by the movement in  Ngor Okpala council area of the state. Ononuju, who defected to the APC in 2015 was a member of the PDP and had also served as special adviser to former Governor Ikedi Ohakim.

He equally served as the secretary of a member of Owerri Zonal Political Forum, an organization that agitates for a governor of the state of Owerri Zone extraction.

When contacted, the state Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, said that the kidnap incident had not been brought to his notice.
