The Bayelsa State Government will, on Wednesday, launch the Safe Motherhood Scheme as part of efforts to reduce the rate of infant and maternal mortality in the state.

The launch, which will hold by 10:00am at the Chief D.S.P Alamieyesigha Memorial Banquet Hall, will have a former Minister of Special Duties and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, as chairman.

A statement by Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State will be the Special Guest of Honour.

The statement enjoined all pregnant women, who are registered in the various government hospitals and health centres, to attend as their stipends would be given to them.

The statement added that the launch of the scheme is a further demonstration of the commitment of the Restoration Government of Governor Henry Seriake Dickson to ensure women in the state deliver of their babies safely.
