Seven First Class students will be graduating from the Federal University Kashere (FUK), in Gombe State, this year.

Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Abdullahi Muhammad Gani, disclosed this during a press conference ahead of the scheduled second convocation ceremony of the institution expected to hold from April 7-8.

Prof. Gani added that 114 students graduated with a second-class upper degree, with an unnamed female student emerging as best graduating student.

He disclosed further that 309 students would graduate during the convocation.

The vice chancellor while acknowledging the feat achieved by the relatively young university, said FUK is among the first out of 12 other universities established in 2010 to have graduated its students.

He said the institution has overcome its challenges by recruiting additional high caliber academic and non-academic staffs geared towards “education for global citizenship.”

“We sponsored 168 staffs on postgraduate studies for higher degrees out of which 7 came back with PhDs while 21 completed their masters’ degrees. The institution also promoted two academic staffs to the rank of professor, 5 others to associate professors as well as 2 deputy registrars. 150 other staffs undertook advanced training in computer training”, the VC said.

Prof. Gani added that he inherited 24 uncompleted projects out of which he was able to complete 14, with four projects ready for commissioning during the convocation ceremony.

Projects to be commissioned at the event include two male and female hostels, entrepreneurship and learning centre, and an ICT centre.

The vice chancellor gave the outline of activities marking the convocation ceremony to include; commissioning of projects as well as exhibition of research output by staff of the university.

In addition, a convocation lecture titled “Challenges and Prospects of Fourth Generation Nigerian University and Realities of 21st Century”  would be delivered by Prof. Ishaq O. Oloyede, Registrar/CEO of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Prof. Buba Bajoga would serve as chairman of the occasion.
