The Gombe Emirate Council has vowed to deal with rapists and violators of the rights of young girls within its domain.

Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar, said this during an advocacy visit by the Gombe State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and High Level Women Advocates (HLWA) who were in the palace to mark the 2018 African Child Celebration.

The advocacy visit was also designed to solicit the Emir’s support towards protecting the rights of the girl- child and children in the state.

Speaking, Alhaji Shehu Abubakar condemned the incidences of the rape in the society while appreciated the various visiting groups for their sincere efforts in tackling the challenge which is becoming rampant in many states and societies.

He called on relevant security agencies as well as the judiciary to get tougher on the perpetrators of the crime to serve as a disincentive to the unwholesome behavior.

Alhaji Abubakar also stressed his love for children, disclosing that he has since enrolled all his children into various school even as he pledged to hold further discussions with relevant authorities in the state on measures to check the menace.

The 2018 African Child Celebration tagged, “Education Matters for Every Child” featured a walk from the Emir’s Palace to Hassan Central Primary School in the state capital. A debate was later organized for pupils from five local government areas of the state.

Addressing the pupils and celebrants, SUBEB boss in the state, Hajiya Zulhatu Madugu recalled that the 6th June, every year, has been set aside to celebrate the African Child, explaining that the state could not mark it on that date due to the Muslim Holy month.

Also speaking, Permanent Secretary, Gombe State Ministry of Higher Education, Hajiya Salamatu Buba, tasked the pupils to take their studies seriously as education was a guaranteed path to self- development and the overall development of the society.
