As part of its commitment to pensioners, the Kano State Government, has paid a total of N9.2 billion to 5,388 pensioners as their outstanding retirement benefits.

Deputy governor of Kano State, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, who disclosed this while inaugurating an eight-member committee for the payment of outstanding pensioners benefits, stated that the payments were inherited from the previous administration.

He explained that the administration has successfully sustained the payment of over N1.2 billion monthly pension to pensioners across the state.

He added that the committee was inaugurated to facilitate the speedy payment of outstanding retirement benefits covering gratuity, pension arrears and death benefits.

Gawuna also maintained that the administration has shown so much concern and determination to address problems faced by the pensioners.

He disclosed that the committee comprised of persons of high integrity,urging them  to screen eligible beneficiaries and ensure payment of their retirement benefits through their Bank Accounts.

He then solicited their understanding and cooperation as well as the understanding of stakeholders towards complementing the efforts of the committee members in discharging their assigned responsibilities.

Members of the committee has Amina Musa, Permanent Secretary Establishment Office of the Head of Civil Service as Chairperson, with Uwa Makama, Permanent Secretary Pension Fund Trustees as member.

Others included Comrade Kabiru Ado Minjibir, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Kano State Chapter, Comrade Salish Ahmed Gwale, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Kano State Branch, Comrade Hambali Abubakar, Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers, Kano Wing and Isma’ila Musa, Director Final Account,Kano State Ministry of Finance.

Also in the committee were Mauro Umar Tanko from the state’s Audit also a member while Alh. Musa Tanko Garko, Director State Pension Fund Trustees will serve as Secretary.

The Committee will submit its report within a week after payment.
