Four National Youth Service Corps members of the  (NYSC) serving in Sokoto State, recently, escaped death in a ghastly accident that involved a Sharon Volkswagen car with registration number Kwara LAF 529 XA.

The accident, however, claimed the life of the driver of the car, Abdullahi Issa, popularly known as Ola-Mummy.  

An eyewitness told Sunday Sun that the vehicle took off from Maraba motor park, Ilorin, Kwara State with eight passengers en route Sokoto State.

According to the eyewitness, who escaped from the car unhurt, the incident happened about 8p.m ,few kilometers to Mayama town.
  “We were about to enter Mayama town when suddenly a motorcyclist riding in the night without head light crossed the road. In the process of dodging the motorcyclist, we ran into a pothole and our car somersaulted many times. Few of us escaped through the windows, but the driver was not lucky. He was trapped inside the car. We tried to rescue him but it was too late because of the head injuries he sustained,” he said.

  When Sunday Sun visited Mayama General hospital on Thursday night, the lifeless body of the late driver was sighted in another car, ready to be taken to Ilorin, Kwara State for burial.

The Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Suleiman Mustapha, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview yesterday.

  He said: “We have warned these motorcyclists to stop riding at night without light. If you remember, a motorcyclist caused the last accident along Koko road that claimed many lives. We have held many enlightenment programmes for them, yet they refused to change.”
