At least, four persons were confirmed dead and several others injured in a tragic accident involving a fire fighting truck and a J5 bus along Jos Road, opposite PDP state secretariat, Nasarawa State.

The accident which took place Tuesday night at about 8:24pm  was said to have been caused by a break failure from the fire fighting vehicle.

Those said to be involved in the gory accident were suspected to be traders who were returning from a village market in Lafia.

According to an eye witness, the accident resulted from the fire service vehicle, which was said to have lost control due to break failure and rammed into the J5 bus which was on the opposite direction.

An eye witness, Salisu Abubakar, who said he monitored  the accident, about 300 meters away from the scene, added that it was difficult for people to rescue the victims until an axe was used to force open the doors of the J5 already in flame .

According to him, even when they succeeded, only two persons who were already burnt to death and others, who sustained injuries were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

When contacted the state commandant of the Federal Road Safety Commission(FRSC) Mrs Fustina Alegbe said the incident was not formally reported to the commission.

According to her, she got  winds of the news like any other person in town and at a later hour of the day.

She said as an agency that was charged with safety of persons and vehicular worthiness, she had authorised her personnel to embark on investigations to get to the immediate cause of the accident for record purposes.

However, the Nasarawa State Police Command spokesman, DSP Kennedy Idirisu, confirmed the  accident, saying two persons died on the spot while two others died in the hospital as a result of severe burnt.

with some others seriously injured and they were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
