The Federal Government has postponed the National Council on Agriculture, Dr Bukar Hassan, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, has said.

The event was initially scheduled to hold between March 20 and March 24 in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.

Hassan said that announced the postponement during a meeting with state Commissioners for Agriculture, in Abuja, on Thursday.

He said the postponement was to enable the ministry finalise some arrangements for the programme and for the commissioners to come with better results.

The permanent secretary, who expressed regret over the inconveniences the postponement might have caused participants said a new date would be communicated to the states.

The National Council on Agriculture was held in Kano State in February, 2016.

The aim of the event is to review and come up with a viable document on national agricultural policy to help the country attain self-sufficiency in food production for consumption and export. (NAN)
