Federal Government has offered scholarship to five Nigerian students who had outstanding performance at the 2017 Olympiad competitions held Morocco.
The students are, Okeke Williams Okechukwu, Nwachukwu Mmesomachi, Akpabio Edikan Idongesit of Graceland International Schools, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, and Okoli Mitchell Chukwuebuka and Amaechi Ikechukwu Abuah of Trinity International College, Ofada, Ogun State.
Students of Graceland International Schools won gold, silver and bronze medals in Mathematics while students of Trinity International College, won bronze medal and honorary mention in Physics.
Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, who received the students in Abuja, yesterday commended them for making Nigeria proud and raising the National flag at the global academic competition.
He said the excellent performance was a testament that Nigerian education system was still one of the best in the world in spite of public outcry and criticism of the education system.
He said government was proud of them and was committed to the fulfillment of the promise of the scholarship.
Adamu also commended the Director General of the National Mathematical Centre (NMC), Prof. Stephen Onah, for his role in the success of the students.
