The Federal Government has inaugurated the board members of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.

Acting Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Dr. Habiba Lawal, who inaugurated the board,  told them that their appointment came as a result of the dissolution of Boards of Federal Government Parastatals, Agencies and Government-Owned Companies in 2015, and the urgent need to constitute the Commission with full complements of its members to enable it carry on with its mandate in accordance with Section 2 of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission Act, 2004.

In a statement by an Assistant Director (Press) , Mohammed Nakorji, quoted Lawal as saying that the role of the Commission is vital to having a steady polity, especially, with agitations going on in the country now over salaries and wages in the public service, private sectors and other various groups.

“It is my belief that you will bring your experience to bear on the Commission and make it succeed.”

Lawal reiterated that the change mantra of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration must not be compromised and urged them to have the interest and the general well-being of the country as topmost priority in the discharge of their official duties.

Board Chairman, R. O. Egbule, in his response, pledged the allegiance of members, to do their best to move the economy forward.

Egbule said  this is not the time to expect reward for work done as the federal government is facing economic challenges, but thanked the president for gibing them the opportunity to serve the country.

This appointment is for a term of five years, renewable at Mr. President’s discretion.

Ekpo Nta, commissioner, Alhaji Dauda Yahaya, Garba Musa Gulma are all full time commissioners as well as members of the board.

Others who are part time commissioners include Victoria Nnenna Chukwuani, Mr. Geoffery Yilleng, Chief E. O. Wole Iro-Aye, and Ahmed Mahmud Gumel. Members of the board are Permanent Secretary (Establishment), Office of the Head of Service of the Federation (OHCSF), Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, Comrade Isa Aremu and Mr. Chuma Nwankwo.
