The Federal Government has appointed the duo of Ahmed Ja’afaru and Mohammed Babandede as  substantive Controller-General of the Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS) and Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) respectively.
In a statement made available to the media from the Ministry of Interior and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Bassey Okon Akpanyung, government noted that while Ja’afaru’s appointment  took effect from May 17, his Immigration counterpart took effect from May 15, 2016.
The release read: “President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Ahmed Ja’afaru as the Controller-General of the Nigeria Prisons Service. Until his appointment, Ahmed Ja’afaru was an Assistant Controller General of the Nigeria Prisons Service Headquarters.”
“He replaces Dr Peter Ezenwa Ekpendu, mni, who retired from the Nigeria Prisons Service after the mandatory 35 years in service. The appointment of Ahmed Ja’afaru took effect from May 17, 2016.”
On the appointment of Babandede, the ministry said: “President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) has approved the appointment of Mohammed Babandede as the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). Until his appointment, Mr Babandede was a Deputy Comptroller General (DCG) of the Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters.”
“He replaces Mr Martin Kure Abeshi, who retired from the Nigeria Immigration Service at the end of his tenure. The appointment of Mohammed Babandede took effect from May 15, 2016,” the ministry noted.
