THE remains of the late Coach Stephen Keshi has been moved to the Stella Obasanjo Hospital, Benin City, Edo State for autopsy, even as members of his family suspect foul play in his death.
The media has been awash with stories of cardiac arrest, as a possible cause of the death of the former Super Eagles legend, but a family member, Rickey Aburime, has debunked the reports, insisting that there would be no speculations over the death of their brother.
According to Aburime, Keshi never complained of any ill-health and was meeting with friends and family members at his Benin City residence before he died.
He said that to ascertain cause of death, there would be no embalming, until a full autopsy is carried out by one Dr. Wilson Akhiwu.
Said he: “Keshi’s death was sudden and we don’t want anybody to speculate. There was no sign of ill-health and Keshi did not complain of anything recently. All of a sudden, they noticed his countenance changed and he was not okay. He was dead by the time they got to the hospital. A nurse that checked him said there was no pulse.
Doctors later confirmed him dead.
“After the confirmation, as he was not a patient of the hospital, they could not write any report or present any death certificate. We were advised to bring the police report, which we did because the police came and inspected his body.
“There will be no embalming. I am about to take the corpse to Stella Obasanjo Hospital, pending the autopsy, which the family wants to do. Dr. Wilson Akhiwu will conduct the autopsy.”
