The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has slammed a $5,000 fine on Nigeria and Egypt respectively.
Nigeria earned the fine due to the overpacked crowd and lack of security at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium during the Match of the AFCON 2017 qualifier between the Super Eagles and the Pharaohs of Egypt in March 25.
Rising from their disciplinary board meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, the African football governing body handed down the fine, while threatening further sanctions if there was a similar incident.
The game which ended 1-1 had over 50,000 spectators crammed into the 15,000 capacity Ahmadu Bello stadium with many climbing on telecommunication mast poles situated around the Stadium complex.
CAF also fined Egypt $ 5,000 for fans, conduct during the AFCON 2017 qualifier return leg against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Alexandria.
Egypt drew the irk of the continental football ruling body in the match encounter due to the excessive usage of laser by fans in the game that the Pharaohs ran away with a slim 1-0 defeat of Nigeria.
…Fines Etoile $5000 for unsporting behaviour against Enyimba
Confederation of African Football has sanctioned Etoile du Sahel for use of foul language towards the referee in their Caf Champions League game against Enyimba.
Coach Faouzi Benzarti and Ahmed Akaichi were also suspended for offensive language and insults towards the referee in the first leg in Port Harcourt against the People’s Elephants.
Both will serve a four-match ban which would be in the Caf Confederation Cup, while Etoile du Sahel will also pay $5000 (about one million naira) fine.
However, the reports of violent behviours and maltreatment levied against the Tunisian side in the second leg of the encounter had not been attended to by Caf.
Meanwhile, Nasarawa United’s first round opponent, Generation Foot was also fined $5000 (about one million naira) for throwing missiles into the pitch which enabled Nigerian outfit to progress after ending the game in goalless draw.
