• Police: We’re not aware

From Clement Adeyi, Osogbo

Chief Olu Falae narrowly escaped death when a gunshot, fired at his car by a mobile policeman following a bullion van along Akure Expressway missed its target.

Daily Sun gathered that the Afenifere leader was on his way to Ile-Ife to pay a courtesy visit to Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi when he was attacked.

He disclosed this to newsmen in Ile-Ife before Afenifere’s meeting with Oba Ogunwusi yesterday.

Falae explained that his car was shot at Ile-Oluji Junction while travelling to Ife for the meeting.

Falae was, last year, abducted in his Akure farm before security agents rescued him.

He expressed shock at the shooting of his car by the police, saying, “when was I kidnapped? Now they want to kill me. I was coming from Akure, approaching Ilesa. I saw some vehicles ahead of me. There was a bullion van in front. The vehicles ahead of us were overtaking the bullion van and we too followed.

“I nearly passed them when I heard a gun shot and I heard a bang on my car. We stopped and we saw that they had fired at our car,” he said.

“They didn’t stop. We stopped at Erin-Ijesa and complained to the police at the checkpoint that some policemen following a bullion van fired at us at Ile-Oluji Junction.

False, who expressed fears over continuous attacks on him said: “I don’t know why I was kidnapped recently and why I was arrested in 1997 and locked up for two years.”

When contacted yesterday, Osun State Police Public Relations Officer Folashade Odoro said they were yet to get a report from Falae, adding that he should have reported at Ile-Oluji police station to be able to fish out the oficers involved.
