Sunday June 19 is Benson Idonije’s D-day. The respected broadcaster and music critic, who turns 80 on that day, will celebrate with some of the biggest names in the entertainment, media and creative industries, as they talk music at Freedom Park, Lagos. Time is 4pm.
An initiative of Committee for Relevant Arts (CORA) and Culture Advocates Caucus, and organised in partnership with BHM, the one-day conference is part of a wide range of activities put together to mark Idonije’s birthday.
The conference will have BHM founder Ayeni Adekunle deliver the keynote address on the theme ‘Music Forward – Deconstructing. Reconstructing’, with veteran music producer and A&R manager, Laolu (Akins) Akintobi as chairman. The conversation will also include a panel discussion featuring prominent personalities from the Nigerian creative industry including Editor-in-Chief, Pulse Nigeria, Osagie Alonge, popular writer, columnist and critic, Molara Wood, foremost entertainment journalist, Femi Akintunde-Johnson with award winning entertainment producer and director, Chris Ihidero as moderator.
Idonije, who is a recipient of the prestigious ‘NETHonours’ and was Fela’s first manager, comments: “I’m grateful to be surrounded by amazing colleagues, friends and family as I enter a new year. The NECLive mini-series is a platform that will help us adapt to the ever-evolving music industry. It is important for us to collectively engage ourselves as stakeholders and more important as members of an evolving community, to bring about the desired industry structure.
