A former deputy governor of Kano State, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following irreconcilable differences with the party.

In letter of notice addressed to the chairman of the PDP in Mandawari Ward in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State, the former governorship aspirant under the platform of the PDP said he withdrew his membership of the party on personal grounds.

The letter, which was sighted by Daily Sun read, “ I  wish to write to formally notify you of my intention to voluntarily withdraw my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party on personal ground.

“My decision is with effect from the 29th day of October, 2018”.

Prof. Hafiz, who  had doubled as Commissioner of Education during his time in power, expressed gratitude to all the members of the PDP for their support and cooperation while he was in the party.

Investigation by Daily Sun indicated that Prof. Abubakar might be moving to the Social Democratic Party (PDP) from where he reportedly would be given the platform to contest for the governorship race in 2019.

At the weekend, he was part of the high- powered delegation of party leaders in the North that received the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Mr. Donald Duke, during his visit to Kano State.

It could be recalled that Prof. Hafiz  Abubakar had resigned his position as the deputy governor of Kano State following differences with his boss, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, decamping to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) i the wake of his resignation.

His hope for the governorship ticket of the party was dashed after the party’s hierarchy, influenced by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, gave the ticket to Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.
